What is in the Hungry for God Series?
The Hungry for God series is a six-session Series of audio CD presentations -- each supported by seven Daily Scriptural Faith-Supports; forty-two in all -- designed to help bring home in a personal and life-giving way the incredibly good news that what God wants most of all to give us, in genuinely loving, always accessible and eternally blessed ways, is Himself.
The six sessions that make up the Hungry for God Series:
1. Hungry for God's Love
The heart and soul of every deep longing that God has embedded in you is God's own
love for you. He knows your name, and He will "renew you in His love." Zeph 3:17
2. Hungry for Salvation
Welcoming the gift of salvation as being, at every level, "Rescue from Separation."
3. Hungry to Know God's Plan for Your Life
The one certain way to find out God's specific plan for your life: "Jesus is Lord."
4. Hungry for Jesus
"Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus." He did not come to simply be a means to some
5. Hungry for the Power to Forgive
Reflection and Prayer about the only human initiative Jesus put into the Lord's Prayer.
6. Hungry for Faith and the Holy Spirit
Embracing the faith of Jesus, welcoming the power of his Holy Spirit.
Who presents the Series?
Bob and Kathy Ovies have been sharing their lives in Jesus-centered ministry for more than forty years, the last twenty-five of which have included Bob's ordained ministry. They have been blessed with six children, one deceased.
Bob has ministered as Deacon, Teacher, Mission and Retreat Director, Director of Marriage Ministies, Young Adult Ministries and Teen Ministries, Individual and Group Counselor (MSW) and Co-Director of a Christian Half-Way House in Detroit's inner-city "Corktown District." Kathy has served as Director of Scriptural Studies, Grade-, Middle- and High-School Teacher, Youth Minister, Minister of Evangelism, Mission Worker in the Appalachian Mountains, in Cook County, Chicago, and in Detroit's inner-city. Together, Bob and Kathy have also ministered as Directors of a Communal House of Prayer in the Detroit, Michigan area, and as mission workers on the Navajo Reservation of Arizona. Together, they also developed the encouragements and perspectives on the Good News of the love of God that make up the Hungry for God Series, as well as a companion Series to help married and engaged couples learn how to pray together more safely, closely, comfortably and consistently, the Together with Jesus Couple Prayer Series. .
The first Hungry for God Series was specifically developed and offered in response to the great number of teens and adults in their local church and area who expressed a deep and persistant hunger to experience an even closer, more joyful and more personal love-relationship with Jesus.
Is the Hungry for God Series denominationally focused?
The Hungry for God Series is Jesus-centered, gospel-centered and faith-centered. It presents no uniquely denominational points-of-view for the simple reason that Jesus,
who is “the same yesterday, today and forever,” still prays for profoundly genuine
unity-in-love among his disciples, and still offers himself as the source and foundation of that life-changing unity. With that prayer of Jesus' in mind, the goal of the Hungry for God Series is simply to try and help teens and adults welcome and enjoy an even deeper and more personal love-relationship with God in and through Jesus Christ.. Any life-specifics that the Lord moves individual participipants to beyond that singular and foundational grace are gratefully left by Bob and Kathy in the entirely capable hands of the Holy Spirit.
